A new active region AR 10953 rotated into our view on the east limb of the sun yesterday. It has been about a month since there has been any solar activity of significance.

White light image acquired with Celestron Nexstar11 telescope, F6.3 focal reducer, and Canon Xti camera (ASA 400, 1/3200 sec exposure). Images were cropped and then stacked and aligned with Registax4.

Mostly clear, high thin clouds, transparency good, turbulence 6/10, no wind, temperature 67°F.

Activity is increasing lately with coronal mass ejects being seen off the east limb yesterday.  A new region is rotating over the east limb, though its not probably the one causing the excitement.

Region 10930 continues active. Here is a close up in white light.

Region 10930 remains extremely active with another X7 class flare about a half hour before the below image was taken.  An M3 class flare was in progress when the image was taken as seen by the brightening in three points in the region.

Image taken with Solarscope 50 halpha telescope, Televue 2.5X Powermate, and Canon Xti camera. Still struggling with ASA and shutter. Weather was partly cloudy, no wind, temperature around 53°F, turbulence 5/10, transparency varied between good to poor due to thin clouds.

 Turbulence was maybe 5/10 in white light and noticably better (6/10) in h-alpha. Temperature was in the 54°F., no wind, clear sky, transparency excellent, and low humidity 30%. Images are rotated so that north is up and east is to the left.
