Mars on Nov 23, 2005
Mars was again impressive! Visually, I estimated atmospheric turbulence to be 6/10 but the image indicates it was probably better than that. It was fairly wavey at the edge of the disk from turbulence, but details around Solis Planum showed up nicely on the notebook screen while I was capturing the video. Mars central meridian was 80.7 degrees according to CalSky.com. Some small specs etc visible near the eastern limb. At first I thought this was processing artifacts, but it shows up in another image I took earlier. I move the image around as I’m taking the video, so I’m hoping its not artifact of dust specs. Time to clean the webcam regardless! Equipment used was a Nexstar 11 on APT wedge, Baader UV/IR cut filter, Televue 5X Powermate, and Phillips Toucam 740K webcam.
